Real Skin, Real Results: The Brightening Serum that Actually Does the Work

Real Skin, Real Results: The Brightening Serum that Actually Does the Work

At 28N, we’ve always believed that great skin starts with transparency—about ingredients, about results, and about the process. So when it came to our new B⁶ Brightening Formula, we didn’t just want to say it worked. We wanted proof. The kind that holds up under a microscope (literally).

So, we sent our formula to an independent lab for a independent in-vivo study—four weeks, eight women, a regimen that mirrored real-life use (twice a day after cleansing), and professional-grade skin imaging to track the changes. Here’s what happened.

The Setup: Science, but Make It Skincare

The test was conducted on women aged 20 to 55, across four time points: day 0, 7, 14, and 28. The tools used? High-tech devices like VisioFace 1000D, C-Cube, and Mexameter MX18—machines that measure things your iPhone camera could only dream of. We tested two versions: our B⁶ Brightening Formula solo, and paired with our Vitamin C Booster (because we love a power couple).

The Results: Small Numbers, Big Glow-Up

Figure 1. Changes in skin redness during the 28-day in-vivo study.

Figure 1. Visible redness decreased progressively over the 28-day study period. Participants using B⁶ Brightening Formula with Toner (Vitamin C Booster) showed the greatest reduction in redness by Day 28.

Figure 2. Changes in melanin index during the 28-day in-vivo study.

Figure 2. Melanin levels decreased throughout the 28-day study, indicating a visible reduction in pigmentation. The combination of B⁶ Brightening Formula and Toner (Vitamin C Booster) produced the greatest improvement by Day 28.

Figure 3. Changes in skin brightness (ITA) during the 28-day in-vivo study.

Figure 3. Skin brightness (ITA) increased over the 28-day study. Higher ITA values indicate a brighter, more even-looking complexion.

Let’s break it down.

By day 28, when used with our Vitamin C Booster, the B⁶ Brightening Formula delivered:

  • +16.39% ITA (Individual Typology Angle) — basically, a fancy way of measuring skin brightness
  • -34.05% melanin — yes, you read that right: less pigmentation
  • +40.69% gloss — aka that healthy, dewy glow
  • -34.05% redness — calmer, more even-toned skin

Skin pigmentation is influenced by melanin production, while redness reflects inflammation and vascular activity. Measuring both provides a more complete picture of visible skin tone improvements.

Even the serum on its own made major moves: melanin down by nearly 32.45%, glow up by almost 20%, texture and redness reduced across the board.

So, What Does That Look Like?

Imagine that “you” after a holiday—not the jetlagged one, the one that returns luminous and smug. That’s the vibe. And if you’re more of a see-it-to-believe-it person, the images from the study speak for themselves. Skin looks calmer. Brighter. Less inflamed. Less…everything you’re trying to blur with concealer.

Why B⁶?

The "B" stands for Brightening, while the "6" represents the six scientifically selected active ingredients at the heart of the formula.

Rather than relying on a single brightening ingredient, B⁶ was designed to target multiple biological pathways involved in uneven skin tone while helping support overall skin health.

  • Sepiwhite™ MSH – Helps reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
  • 4-n-Butylresorcinol – Targets multiple pathways involved in melanin production.
  • Glabridin – A licorice-derived active that helps calm visible redness while supporting a more even skin tone.
  • Bakuchiol – Supports skin renewal for a smoother, more radiant complexion.
  • Resveratrol – Provides antioxidant protection against environmental stressors.
  • Ectoin – Helps strengthen the skin barrier and protect skin from environmental stress.

The Takeaway: Clinical-Grade Brightening, Without the Clinical Feel

It's one thing to hear that a product "brightens." It's another to see independent in-vivo results showing measurable improvements in pigmentation, redness, radiance, and overall skin tone—in just 28 days.

B⁶ Brightening Formula was designed to address multiple causes of uneven skin tone rather than focusing on a single concern. By combining six carefully selected active ingredients, it works to visibly brighten the complexion while helping support a healthier-looking skin barrier.

If you're looking to reduce the appearance of pigmentation, calm visible redness, and achieve a brighter, more even-looking complexion, B⁶ Brightening Formula was designed to do exactly that—and now we have independent in-vivo results to support it.

Looking for the Complete Brightening Routine?

Our independent 28-day in-vivo study also showed that pairing B⁶ Brightening Formula with our Vitamin C Booster delivered greater improvements in visible skin brightness, pigmentation and redness than using B⁶ alone.

If you're looking to maximise your brightening results, we've already paired the two formulas together in our Brightening Duo.

The Brightening Duo combines:

  • Vitamin C Booster – Provides antioxidant protection while enhancing skin radiance and supporting a brighter-looking complexion.
  • B⁶ Brightening Formula – A six-active formula designed to target multiple biological pathways involved in uneven skin tone, pigmentation and visible redness.

Together, they create a simple two-step routine designed to brighten the complexion, improve the appearance of pigmentation, and promote a more even-looking skin tone.

Whether you're concerned about post-inflammatory marks, dullness, uneven skin tone or visible redness, the Brightening Duo was designed to work together to deliver even greater visible results.
